About our cause
Who We Are
Loose ends is Newbury’s longest running drop-in charity and now a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). We serve nutritious food and provide essentials to people who may be homeless, disadvantaged or vulnerable. We are run solely by volunteers and rely on donations and support from across our Newbury community. We serve meals 5 days a week, providing upwards of 120 hot meals with the support of around 65 volunteers who give over 6,000 hours of their time each year.
What Else We Do
As well as offering hot meals we also provide mini-food parcels, toiletries, and clean clothes to all those in need as well as start-up boxes for our newly housed clients. We provide a friendly, safe, environment where clients can socialise, chat and find out about other support that might be available to them. Our clients are often homeless or ‘sofa surfing’, may have addictions, and/or mental health challenges or they may be on low incomes and struggling with day-to-day living. Our provision can be that vital link to support that helps them to cope and hopefully move forward.
What's Happening Next
After 30 years of serving clients from the Baptist Church’s Morton Hall we need to relocate in Spring 2022. Our relocation will enable us to continue to support the people who seek our help in a secure and inviting new environemnt and to further develop our services in line with our clients needs.
Our Future
We are excited about our future and committed to continuing and developing our work but only with ongoing financial help will this be possible. All financial support and sponsorship is very gratefully received and, as we run on a fully voluntary basis, all monies raised will go into providing our services and supporting our clients. And as the they are the ones who are best placed to say what Loose Ends Newbury means to them, here are a couple of quotes from our regular clients:
"I've been through some tough times. Loose Ends has been a lifeline."
"Lovely people. Amazing food."
